Rev David NewmanHon Assistant Priest
David Newman came to Crewkerne on his retirement from full-time parish ministry at the end of 2003. He was ordained in 1962 to a curacy in East Grinstead, and subsequently was in charge of a daughter church in Grimsby. He then returned to his home county of Kent as Vicar of three village churches, before his final move to South London as Vicar of Holy Innocents, South Norwood, “the top right-hand corner of Croydon”. Four very different parishes in four different dioceses.
On holiday in 1974 he met Christine and they were married two years later. They have a daughter, married with two children, living in Norfolk, and a son, married, and as a vicar in Bethnal Green continuing the family tradition – he is the fifth successive generation to be ordained.
David enjoys languages, words, quizzes and puzzles. He and Christine are on the committee of the Crewkerne and District Twinning Association. They are also members of the U3A, the local RSPB group and the South Somerset Ramblers, and they enjoy the opportunities that retirement brings for travel at home and abroad.
