The Words of our Mouth
Our thoughts matter.
What we think makes a huge difference in our lives and the lives of others. Jesus said when we look at a woman lustfully we have committed adultery in our hearts. (Matthew 5:28). As we have seen this week in the news, these evil thoughts overflow into action with appalling results.
Our thoughts can also affect us, as do our words.
‘A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.’ Luke 6:45
Words are not neutral, in our Bible readings this week we see two people speak in a powerful prophetic voice. Anna and Simeon were so closely aligned with God that Mary treasured their words for the remainder of her life.
Words too can also be harmful.
With our tongues we can bless and curse. Bless or curse others AND ourselves. Don’t be deceived into thinking that they are just words.
Words have power, by God’s word the universe was formed.
By our words we can bring healing and hope.
