Passion – Mothering Sunday
Every mother knows what it means to demonstrate sacrificial love.
The root of the word Passion has nothing to do with attraction or love, but comes from the Latin to suffer. The word changed its meaning in Shakespearian times. However real and true love always has an element of sacrifice, – we give, rather than we take.
We all need the nurturing love that comes most typically from mothers. We need the security to be ourselves and to grow, but also to be corrected and challenged.
As Agatha Christie put it
“A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things…”
God’s love for us, is even greater than that.
And we can all learn to demonstrate our love and care for others in this same sacrificial and giving way – whether we are mothers, or fathers, single men or women, young or old we can all grow to show love with more passion!
With every blessing
