Encouragement in Christ
If! Paul writes ‘If there is any encouragement in Christ.’ in his letter to the Philippians.
‘If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, 2make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.’ Philippians 2:1-2
If! Really If! Of course there is encouragement! Or at least there should be. If there is not, we are missing something very important, vitally important If we can’t seem to find the encouragement in worshipping God, in knowing Christ, in experiencing the presence of His Holy Spirit we are missing a key part of the Gospel – the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Paul describes how Jesus humbled himself and took the form of a servant so that we could know the love and the hope that came from his death on the cross. We are to follow his example and humble ourselves, but in this we are to find our true freedom.
‘…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.’ Philippians 2:12,13
God is at work in us. Paul doesn’t write God might be at work in you, but he is at work in you – but we have to live in that truth and take our encouragement from him. Then when we let him in, we will find this surpassing joy and encouragement that comes from him.
No ‘ifs’ no ‘buts’ Encouragement in Christ!
With every blessing
